Champlain Canalway Trail: Outreach Continues into Fall

Contributed by the Champlain Canalway Trail Working Group

The first Monday in September – Labor Day – has become a “time marker” day. The unofficial end of summer, the official start of a new school year. Blueberry season has passed,  local apples are on the way. Leaves on trees will soon be changing color, daytime temperatures may cool off (although as this is being written one wonders).

What a summer this has been on the CCT: festivals, bike tours, concerts, bike rodeos, paddling events, cardboard boat races all commemorating the first 200 years of the Champlain Canal and celebrating hopes for the next 200 years.

One thing that is not changing with the season is public promotion of the trail. By the time you read this, the Champlain Canalway Trail Working Group will have participated in the Waterford Tugboat Roundup. Next up will be staffing a table at the Sasquatch Festival & Calling Contest on September 30 in Whitehall. And we will be tabling at Locktoberfest in Fort Edward at Canal Street Market Place on October 14. The CCT goes right by this site; there will be food, arts & crafts and produce from local farms. If you are in the area stop by our tables and walk or bike part of the trail.
