If an easy to moderate one-day guided peddle through a history-rich section of the Upper Hudson River Valley and along the Champlain Canal corridor sounds appealing, then the 2014 Champlain Canalway Trail Bicycle Tour is for you.
For the third year, the Champlain Canalway Trail Working Group will offer a bike tour of part of the route of this emerging trail on Sunday, August 10. This tour is intended to introduce people to some of the historical and natural features the trail will connect. The group will be small compared to many tours, and will cover approximately 30 miles. This year’s tour will begin at Saratoga National Historical Park (SNHP) and proceed via Stillwater to Mechanicville, with several stops along the way to learn about historic sites, buildings, parks, and other places of interest. After lunch in Mechanicville, the tour will return by a different route to SNHP. The ride will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end by 4:00 p.m.
More information and online registration is available at www.hudsoncrossingpark.org/cctbiketour. Registration requires a $12 donation per person ($15 after July 31) to support trail development. Interested people also can contact Wally Elton (wally.elton@earthlink.net).
The tour is sponsored by the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor with essential support from the Mohawk-Hudson Bicycling Club, Hudson Crossing Park, and Adirondack EZriders.
